Welcome to the homepage of the UK’s leading painting and decorating skills competition – the Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator of the Year.

Best known and longest running event

The competition is the best-known and longest running showcase of talent for up-and-coming painters and decorators. Every year, tutors and employers all across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland encourage their best students and apprentices to participate in regional competitions, either at New Entrant level or in the main competition.

National event

Highest scores from the main competition in the regional heats will qualify for entry into the national final which is to be each autumn, and forms part of the Skillbuild vocational skills extravaganza, encouraging and promoting excellence amongst young craftspeople.

Stepping stone to WorldSkills Leipzig 2013

All competitors entering the Crown Trade competition in 2011, and who were born on or after 1st January 1990, will have the opportunity to be selected to represent the UK in the WorldSkills competition, to be held in 2013 at Leipzig (visit www.worldskills.org for more details). The Crown Trade competition offers the only opportunity to gain entry into the Painting & Decorating element of this competition.

Prized title

The Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator of the Year title is a prestigious event. Using the Crown Trade range of products, students will be put through their paces as they tackle tests of skill, dexterity and accuracy, all within a tight timescale. There are two levels of entry open to Painting and Decorating students attending a recognised Painting & Decorating training course, run by and NVQ/SVQ accredited college, training provider or training scheme.  Click on the boxes below for further information.
