Crown Trade is aiming to make life easier for contractors working on new build sites and give them ‘more control over the wall’ with the launch of Covermatt Drywall Primer. This versatile ready to use primer has been specially developed for the decorator to use on all bare dry-lined walls and ceilings to provide the perfect base for first decoration products such as Crown Trade Covermatt Obliterating Emulsion.

Crown Trade brand manager Debbie Orr says “Gypsum board has transformed the way we build houses in this country and speeded up the construction process considerably, but as every decorator knows, drywall panels are notoriously thirsty and will absorb coat after coat of emulsion if they’re not correctly primed. We’ve found that more and more decorators are now being asked to prepare new drywalls in addition to applying the first decoration so we’ve developed this new product to put them in total control of the final finish. Applying just a single coat of Covermatt Drywall Primer to walls and ceilings by brush, good quality medium pile roller or spray prior to decorating will even out all the differences in texture and absorbency and make it much easier to achieve uniformity across the panels and joints. The primed surfaces can then be given their first decorative coat in just four hours. “

Debbie adds, “There aren’t many ‘true’ equivalents on the market but when we carried out comparative tests with its leading competitor we found that Covermatt Drywall Primer was easier to apply and delivered the better opacity and smoother finish of the two.  When both products were used in conjunction with Covermatt Obliterating Emulsion and viewed in critical light, our primer reduced the incidence of ‘roller striping’ more effectively.”

Covermatt Drywall Primer has other uses on new build sites as Debbie explains: “Where you need to apply a mist coating on freshly plastered surfaces and there’s no running water available to dilute the first decoration emulsion you might normally use, you can use Covermatt Drywall Primer as an effective alternative and get all the surfaces primed and ready for decor using a single product all the way through.”
Formulated and packaged primarily for use on new build properties, Crown Trade Covermatt Drywall Primer is offered in white in a convenient 10 litre pack which should be sufficient to prime up to 150m2 of walls and ceilings depending on application method and technique.
