Crown Paints will be updating visitors to its stand at Ecobuild on the significant steps it has taken to reduce its environmental impact over the last 12 months.
Last year, the British paint manufacturer chose the high profile event to unveil its new ‘portfolio footprinting’ tracker system, which generated a great deal of interest across the specification sector.
Crown Paints said the technology - which charts the carbon footprint of every product it makes including the specification brands of Crown Trade, Sadolin and Sandtex Trade - would ultimately underpin the company’s pioneering and transparent action towards sustainability, as part of its ‘earthbalance’ programme.
Now, twelve months since the launch of the portfolio footprinting initiative, Crown Paints is using the sound data produced as a catalyst to drive down its own greenhouse gas emissions, with the target of a 10 per cent reduction in 2015 – and 25 per cent in 2020.
These two new targets are in addition to the company’s sustainability target of zero waste to landfill, which was originally targeted for December 2012 – and has already been achieved more than 12 months ahead of schedule.
Crown Paints’ work to date has already seen the company secure a Green Apple Award, from the Green Organisation, and a Sustainable Manufacturing Award from The Manufacturer magazine.
Vernon Kinrade, Crown Paints Specification Sector Manager, said: “We are well on track with our green commitment.
“Successes such as the achievement of our zero waste to landfill target more than 12 months ahead of schedule are an indicator of the commitment of the company as a whole to the reduction of carbon.
“We’ll continue to pursue the objectives we’ve set across the breadth of our business under our ‘earthbalance’ initiative.
“There’s still plenty to do and we see sustainability as a mission for the entire organisation. It’s not just about filling a market niche, it’s about changing the way we do business.
“We’d encourage people to come and see us at Ecobuild, see the carbon footprinting tool firsthand, and find out more about what we’ve done in our sustainability programme over the last 12 months.”
