Crown Trade launches new Protective Coatings range

Crown Trade is significantly expanding its product offer in the second half of 2010 with a new range of high performance Protective Coatings, formulated specifically for use on structural steel, metal cladding and other internal and external metal features.

New Crown Trade High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer and Fast Drying Cladding Finish are the first two products in the range. Used together as a system, they offer the professional decorator and contractor a very straightforward and cost effective way to refurbish metal cladding, doors and soffits which have suffered coating failure and become weathered, dull and discoloured as a result.

Crown Trade High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer is versatile preparatory coating that can be used on ferrous and non-ferrous metal alike, and with its excellent adhesion and rust inhibiting properties provides a sound foundation for the protection of exterior metalwork, particularly structural steelwork. It can be applied by brush, spray or roller and is suitable for use as a spot primer or across large expanses of metalwork to provide an effective barrier against corrosion, achieving coverage of up to 7m2 per litre on smooth surfaces. It cures to a low sheen finish in a very distinctive salmon pink colour which makes it easy for applicators to see where the primer has been applied and to ensure no areas have been missed.

To bring weathered exterior metal cladding back to pristine condition, any failed areas should be spot primed using the High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer and then two coats of Crown Trade’s new Fast Drying Cladding Finish should be applied. This system is designed to be very straightforward to apply by any professional decorator or contractor using conventional brushes, rollers or spray equipment. No special equipment, training or application techniques are called for. The system can protect cladding for eight years or more.

Unlike many other metal coatings of a similar quality and performance, Crown Trade Fast Drying Cladding Finish is water-based rather than solvent-borne and one-pack rather than two-pack, resulting in a coating that is hassle-free and more pleasant and easy to apply. Being water-based it is dries quickly (ready for recoating in just 4 hours) and has a longer shelf life once opened than a system requiring activation.

Crown Trade brand manager Debbie Orr said: “When the finishes used to decorate and protect metal cladding exposed to the elements begin to deteriorate, it gives the impression that a building has become unloved and neglected. Now it is remarkably easy and cost effective to give the cladding a facelift and restore its appearance, or opt for a different colour scheme and transform the look of the building completely. Whatever colours are chosen, the fungicide we’ve added to our Fast Drying Cladding Finish helps to prevent organic growth and maintain the just painted look. ”

Debbie adds: “Our new literature shows a collection of BS colours and the most popular factory applied shades but Crown Trade stockists are actually able to produce Fast Drying Cladding Finish in many colours, including black, to suit your clients’ requirements.”

Crown Trade High Build Rust Inhibiting Metal Primer is supplied in a 2.5 litre pack and Fast Drying Cladding Finish is available in a 5 litre pack.
