New Entrant level

For those students in their first year at college and who do not yet feel their skills are ready for the challenge of the Main Competition, the New Entrant level aims to encourage students to develop their skills. Competitors should be in their first year of training and working towards NVQ2 or SVQ2 or equivalent.

Competitors that have previously taken part in the Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator of the Year competition at any level, are NOT eligible to enter the New Entrant competition. The number of New Entrant competitors put forward by any college must not exceed the number of competitors entered by that centre into the main competition.

Test requirements for New Entrant level will consist of practical work only.

Related knowledge will be limited to that required to carry out the practical work. Competition working time will be 4 hours and will include 3 modules:
• Setting Out and Painting on a board 900 x 900mm
• Wall Papering on a board 900 x 900mm
• Decorative Stencil Technique on a board 600 x 600mm
Paste tables etc. will be provided. All decorating materials such as paint, paper etc. will be supplied by Crown Trade.
