Knots, Resin Exudation

Excessive resin level / content.  Resinous species of timber.  Solar grain (heat absorption of dark coloured finishes).

Solution

Remove excess resin from knots and other resinous areas with a hot air paint stripper.  Wipe immediately with methylated spirit to remove residue.  Apply two coats of fresh knotting.
