The six-week project, carried out by Nottinghamshire based decorators, Lane Sheppard and Company, involved the comprehensive internal redecoration of all of the main circulation areas of the secondary school, as well as the art department, which spans two floors. Crown Trade Timonox Acrylic Eggshell and Crown Trade Timonox Vinyl Matt were applied to all of these areas, which included corridors and stairwells, to ensure the availability of a safe escape route in the event of a fire.
Paul Maine, specification consultant for Akzo Nobel Decorative Coatings Ltd, advised the use of Crown Trade’s fire retardant Timonox range for the project. He said: “The fire caused widespread damage to the school, resulting in more than half of it being completely destroyed. Unsurprisingly, every protective measure possible was incorporated into the refurbishment programme to minimise any risk of fire in the future.
