Crown Paints sets benchmark at housing scheme

A BENCH made from recycled plastic paint containers has been donated to a social housing community in London.

Ash Close in Edgware, managed by Habinteg Housing Association, received the bench from Crown Paints to mark a recent refurbishment of homes carried out by the association’s national partnering contractor, Bell Group.

Habinteg’s Head of Asset Management, Mark Simmons-Powell, said: “On behalf of our tenants we thank Crown Paints and Bell Group for their gift of a bench made from recycled paint containers.

“Its position near the garden is at the heart of the community and provides a welcome new feature for this inclusive housing scheme.

“Having places to socialise and enjoy the outdoors is fundamental to friendly, sustainable and inclusive neighbourhoods; everyone on the scheme can now enjoy it.

“Bell Group has been working in partnership with us for some time and we’ve had positive feedback about their services. We really appreciate their role in making our schemes great places to live.”

Ash Close is an inclusive community of affordable, accessible, Lifetime standard homes promoting independent living for disabled and non-disabled people managed by Habinteg.

Contractors from Bell Group, used Crown Trade Vinyl Matt in a variety of colours to complete an interior make over at a number of homes, with exterior wood protected by Sadolin Superdec.

Rob Grant, Contract Manager at Bell Group, said: “We decorated all the rooms, corridors and stairwells as well as coating the exterior woodwork.

“We used Crown Trade Vinyl Matt on the interiors and Sadolin Superdec outside, to provide long-lasting protection.

“We do a lot of community investment with Habinteg – sometimes we do a bit of gardening or other maintenance, but this time we noticed that the benches in the communal garden were deteriorating.

“We knew Crown Paints made benches out of recycled plastic paint containers as part of their sustainability portfolio – it made them the obvious choice to ask for help.

“The tenants at Ash Close were delighted with the refurbishments and very happy to receive a bench for the community garden.”

Debbie Orr, Marketing Manager for Crown Paints, said: “The combination of our versatile product range and sustainability credentials has helped Bell Group make a real difference to the lives of people living in Ash Close.

“We were keen to support the work of the Habinteg’s Housing Association in promoting inclusive and vibrant communities through our working relationship with Bell Group.”
