Redefine your style
In the last of our series of blogs on this year’s inspirational new colour trends as devised by our very own team of colour experts, we’re looking at how ‘Redefined’ can change the way you think about colour and how you can use it in your home.
Redefined – a new approach
The inspiration behind Redefined is all around us, as it encourages us to take a fresh look at how existing materials can be recycled and repurposed to create something shiny and new. This notion is effectively illustrated by terrazzo, a popular decorative material for floors and walls which is created through setting chips of marble, granite and other materials into polished concrete to give a high gloss finish. As terrazzo is a high-end product that has essentially been created by reusing waste materials, it is the perfect embodiment of Redefined and as such, has helped to inspire the colour palette.
Combining a contemporary mix of chalky pinks, lime greens and pastel colours with strong concrete grey and charcoal shades, the versatility of the Redefined trend makes it perfect for use in both living and sleeping areas. This understated colour palette is most effective when used with matt paint finishes. As with all our colour trends, it can be adapted to suit individual tastes and as well as using colour on walls and ceilings, key shades can be picked out using complementary soft furnishings and accessories.
Designs that define
This trend is all about taking a different perspective on the concepts of industry and mass production and in particular, the innovation of modern manufacturing techniques. The use of 3D design and printing is a perfect example of how high performance and complex products can be created whilst also reducing waste.
With this in mind, the use of block, tile and grid patterns can give the Redefined colour palette real impact and showcase the minimalist beauty of this trend. This technique can be used to create an interesting feature wall, with the full lower half decorated in a grid pattern, or is equally as effective when used as border design.
To achieve this look, precision is everything so you’ll need to plan and prepare. Fortunately, we have put together this easy to follow video to help you get it right first time.
